Successful Ebook Campaign for Feature Film, Life Just Is
In late 2010 the independent feature film, Life Just Is was shot. During the shooting process, the social media activity was high! One lead actress made a video blog for each day on set, the director published his production notes in blogs and other industry sites, tweets were being pumped out and everyone was tracking the progress on Facebook.
It was a successful time for building the first wave of momentum for this great film.
When the film moved into post-production, there were a few new targets that had to be met 1) Keeping the momentum alive and growing online 2) Coming up with new marketing collateral such as the lead poster for the film 3) Actively engaging with the audience in a meaningful way 4) Being noticed by the industry.
We came up with a competition aimed at uni students and recent grads studying design. It was a competition to design the main poster that would represent the film. We thought this was a great opportunity to offer to students looking to build their portfolio when starting-out in their career, the winning designer would have that impressive credit to their name and all of the participants would be featured in an ebook, of which they would also have as an achievement. It was also a great point of interest for all of the current supporters of the film, and a way to introduce new people to the project.
The competition was a great success! Entries came in from around the world and one university in America even made it a part of their course curriculum! It was such a buzz to see they had printed all of their posters and hung them in their design rooms at their uni. The designers were all very happy to be involved and grateful for the opportunity. They encouraged their friends to vote for them, and the Facebook fans tripled. Existing supporters really enjoyed being a part of the competition by voting and they saw that things were not going stale online for Life Just Is.

Ebook campaigns can be really successful and a great way to engage your audience, as well as promoting them at the same time.
